Kaye's Book Blog , so I have not had much time for reading of my own. Because of that, I've tried to scale down the number of books that I am reading. I truly love our library system! So, among the children's books they love me to read, I am also juggling time for a few of my own. BTT asks: Do you keep all your unread books together, like books in a waiting room? Or are they scattered throughout your shelves, mingling like party-goers waiting for the host to come along? *sigh* Hmm... Books that I want to read, have started reading, need to read or said I'd read, did I miss any? Again, I *sigh* as I think of all the books that I SO WANT TO READ and there is just not enough time in life to read them all. It's depressing if I think about it, so I try not to. My books are every where. I even have some in storage, I know, abuse. I can't help it. I move a lot. Otherwise, you can find them next to my bed, on the table in the dining room, in my purse, on my dresser, on hold at the library for me to pick up or my over-flowing bookshelf. Not to mention all of the children's books I read aloud to my kids. Those are floating everywhere too, just in case they want to pick one up. No rhyme, no reason, they are just every where. Well, when I read this weeks meme, I first thought, "No", but then I remembered a newly published author that I've been keeping tabs on.  I'm reading her first novel now, " Around the World in 80 Dates "  and am looking forward to the next. I'm just about as good with knowing authors of books as I am at remembering or knowing singers/bands of songs or details of movies.  There are, of course, some that I know, but even some of my favorites leave me blank when I try to bring them up in conversation - so I don't, usually.  Trivia, forget it. Since I haven't necessarily read a biography on any authors I've read, I guess I really can't answer this Booking Through Thursday question of the week.  Of course, I'll read the backside of the book that has a snippet of the author or I may catch an interview on T.V., but that is about it.  Either way, I don't feel it influences to read or not to read their works.   **I do have one exception to this..  I recently learned that a girlfriend from high school has published two novels and is working on her third.  Well, of course, I have to read 'em!!  I'll be starting the first one tonight. Blogs.  Newspapers.  Reading is such a fundamental skill. I wasn't always like this. I didn't get much of a chance when I was growing up and didn't develop an interest until later in life.  I hated reading assignments in high school and never finished any of the assigned novels.  I'd skim through to get the "jist" of the story and listen to classmates' reviews just so when it came time for me to write my own report or written exam, I'd at least get a passing grade. Now, with three little ones, just as my blog titles states, "Inspiring Book Worms" is what I'm trying to do.  I hope to instill in them what wasn't passed on to me or what I didn't grasp when I was young. Happy New Year Everyone! I'm so excited for 2009 cause The Support Your Local Library Challenge is underway!  We even have some books waiting for us at the library!  I encourage you to join in or follow along.  You can see our commitment here and here .  Not realizing that in doing so on both blogs, I've committed to 50 books...  With all of the children's stories, I'm sure that won't be hard to attain.  So in keeping with my Goals for 2009 , I'll say at least 15 of those will be "for me". Madeline by Ludwig Belemans (Ages 4-8) 1939 "In an old house in Paris.  That was covered with vines.  Lived twelve little girls in two straight lines."  The littlest girl was Madeline. The first story of many in a series by Belemans, shows Madeline fearless and full of mischief.  She loves winter, snow and ice.  Is not afraid of mice and to a tiger in the zoo, will say, "Pooh pooh". No one knows how to frighten Miss Clavel better than her.  And one evening she becomes so ill Miss Clavel has to call the doctor and Madeline is rushed to the hospital! Ever since we read Tiger, Tiger , my son gets excited about any books that have Tigers, so I couldn't resist on picking this one up for him. Home for a Tiger Home for a Bear by Brenda Williams and Illustrated by Rosamund Fowler (Ages 4-8) Rhyming lyrics throughout the story of types of animals and what habitat you can find them in is quite fun.  "Leaping tiger, eyes like glass.  Likes to hide in jungle grass."  or "Shiny, slippery, slimy snail.  Has a shell for head and tail....

The 2009 Support Your Local Library Challenge  is being hosted over at J. It's that time for the Children's Classics carnival over at 5 Minutes for Books .  This month's theme is about Christmas or the December Holiday you celebrate with your family and the books you share with your children.  Follow along or join in, either way it's tons of fun! As a child, we didn't read many books at home.  Actually, I don't remember any until I was old enough to check them out myself at the school library.  Instead, over Christmas, we watched the much loved programs like Frosty the Snowman , Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer , Santa Claus is Coming to Town and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I still love to watch these programs and am sharing them with my children although they don't seem to be very interested. Unfortunately at the time of this posting How the Grinch Stole Christmas still hasn't been made available, so hopefully we'll get it before Christmas for me to share with the little ones .  If not, we'll get next year.  Until t...
